Species group: Unrecognized and Rare Breed dogs
Other name(s): Cunucu Dog
The basics:
The Arubian Cunucu Dog is an extremely rare pariah-type dog from Aruba, an island in the Dutch Antilles. It was likely created when Iberian Hounds brought to the island by 16th century Portuguese slave traders cross-bred with local feral dogs, resulting in a hunting dog capable of chasing small game (especially iguanas) through the interior desert.
Appearance / health:
The Arubian Cunucu Dog has a moderately sized body with a curled tail and pricked ears.
Like many other breeds, the Arubian Cunucu Dog is also prone to genetic health disorders. By careful breeding, the probability of acquiring inherited diseases can be reduced.
Behavior / temperament:
Arubian Cunucu Dogs possess a natural tendency to guard and hunt. The hound ancestry seems to make them friendly toward their humans, but don't expect them to be able to easily resist chasing small pets.
