I find this breed to be exceptionally loyal to their main care giver, they are very much stranger weary, and should be taken with you to outings around people as much as possible as pups to be well socialized, even then they still tend to be shy. They seem to get better strangers as they get older but will never go up to a new person with tail wagging, they are more likely to greet a new visitor to it's home with alot of warning,( barking sometimes growling with hair standing up) . They are highly intelligent and a bit stubborn as they do things when they want not because you tell them. One of the most elegant breed of dog there is in my opinion, and eyes like no other breed, they are like the exotic Egyptian eyes of Cleopatra. They need kind but firm owners who have researched the breed and have some understanding of them. I love my Azawakh but do not recommend them but to a few select people.
