The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.

The first generation Boglen Terrier is a cross between a pure Beagle and a pure Boston Terrier, although subsequent generations may have different proportions of the two breeds in the mix. This mix of two very different breeds means you can't really predict what you're getting in advance, so you need to be aware of both the Beagle and the Boston Terrier traits so you'll be ready for anything.

Appearance / health:
While all mixed-breed dogs can vary in appearance, the Boglen Terrier can be more varied than most-- although many of them do have a noticeable resemblance to the Beagle side.

Behavior / temperament:
While it's impossible to predict the exact traits inherited by any mixed-breed dog, the Boglen presents a real challenge. For example, some owners say their dog is quiet and can't serve as a watchdog, while others say theirs bays like a hound. Some owners say their dog is great with their pets, while others say they can't resist giving chase. Your only real option with this mix is to be a good observer and an intuitive dog trainer.
