Species group: Mixed Breeds
Other name(s): Poogle, Beaglepoo
The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
The first generation Poogle is a cross between a pure Beagle and a pure Poodle, although subsequent generations may have different proportions of the two breeds in the mix. While some say this hybrid was intended to create a hypoallergenic pet, be aware that many allergies are actually to the dander and not the hair. Check with your allergist before you decide to take the dog home.
Appearance / health:
While all mixed-breed dogs can vary in appearance, you could really get an assortment of coats and small to medium sized animals with the Poogle. If the Poodle was a Standard, the mix could grow up to larger than you expect.
Behavior / temperament:
While it's impossible to predict the exact personality of a mixed-breed dog, Poogles are widely regarded as affectionate family pets who love to be with their people and enjoy learning tricks.
