Species group:

The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.

The first generation Siberian Husky / Border Collie is a cross between a pure Siberian Husky and a pure Border Collie, although subsequent generations may have different proportions of the two breeds in the mix. If the dog is a rescue, you would be wise to get to know the animal first to make sure it isn't more dog than you can handle. The Border Collie may be the most intelligent dog, and the Siberian Husky is no slouch at independent thinking either. They are both energetic dogs originally developed to work hard and range far, and there's little doubt that the outcome of this pairing will demand an active, energetic owner with a good grasp on dog psychology and lots of time to spend working and playing with your pet.

Appearance / health:
The appearance of a mixed breed dog is never guaranteed, and there is a lot of variety in the appearance of these animals. Some may resemble a Collie with blue eyes, but others look almost like purebreed Siberian Huskies.

Behavior / temperament:
Intelligent, active, energetic, the Siberian Husky / Border Collie has a brain and it will find a way to use it. If you don't properly socialize and train this mix, the dog can become destructive in pursuit of its own entertainment. Some owners say their dogs are escape artists.
