I received Tiny on my 8th birthday. He was the runt of the litter and the last puppy to be adopted, so my knobby-kneed self knew he was the one I would have chosen even if there had been twenty available puppies around. Tiny was sweet, but hyper. I spent a great deal of our first few weeks together sitting cross legged at the kitchen table, trying to keep his sharp puppy teeth away from my feet. I can’t say he never bit, because he did, on three separate occasions. Luckily, he never bit hard enough to draw blood. All in all, even though he was not the most suitable pet for children, he was a great first dog. It wasn’t until I got older that I truly began to appreciate his loving, energetic nature.
