I have had several of this breed. In general, they are friendly and nice to be around. However, for all of these dogs, it is true that they are quite stubborn in nature. This makes is sort of difficult to train them and in general, it takes quite a lot of repetition to ingrain the habit you want to teach them. For example, one of our younger days has a tendency to bite any item, edible or non-edible, into pieces, given the chance. Especially in relation to the other dogs I have owned, it is hard to teach him not to do this. One also may have to be more harsh with a dachshund than with other breeds.

All in all, the dachshund is a breed that, as a puppy, is sort of a rough diamond. However, with sufficient training, it is a great and family-friendly dog.
