I had my dachshund for 12 years. I adopted her when she was a puppy. She went with me everywhere! When I left for school, if i went on a trip, or a short road trip she came with me. She was a very lazy, chill dog. She loved to be right beside me. Her favorite thing to do when she wanted up on the bed or couch is to jump up on the side and just stare at me and whine to get my attention. Then she would happily curl up next to me and sleep.

My dachshund was never really energetic, she loved to lounge around. She was content as long as she was near me as she was strongly attached to me. She never had a problem with kids or people she knew or other cats and dogs. She just did not like strangers. She was fine from a distance, but when they invaded her personal space she was never very happy about that. However, as a pup she was not socialized that well. With more socialization I don't think this would have been an issue. She got better with time and I took her to a lot of places including on a plane and she was fine, just didn't like random people coming up to her and petting her.

She was healthy all her life , with the exception of flea allergies. That was her only medical problem she had. Overall, she was the best dog I ever had. They are great dogs, love to cuddle near you and are small.
