Both my first and second dogs were german shepherds. The first lived over 10 years and the second is now 5 years and going strong. Neither of them had any significant health problems, are easy to train, very lovable, and excellent guard dogs. If you're thinking of getting a GS, it's ideal that you should have an extensive space for them to run and exercise. My GS' are never confined to small spaces and tend to become distressed if they are. They're a very family friendly breed and gentle with children. If you're thinking about getting your first dog, a GS is a perfect fit.
