Rat Terriers are very loveable dogs to own. My family currently has one Rat Terrier dog and we couldn't image life without him. We got him when he was a puppy so he wasn't trained, they crate train well as long as it isn't used as a punishment and they are excellent guard dogs. But they can cause some problems, our dog in his first years liked to chew up furniture. They are also very athletic dogs, they like to run around but can be clumsy which can make for vet bills. They are very loving in a household and good around kids as long as the kids are nice to them as well. If you are not the person who likes loud barking this isn't the breed for you, a person can walk on the other side of the street and the dog will bark. Our dog enjoys to sit out the window seat to just bark at people. This breed is very loyal, loving, and protective they are amazing to have as pets.
