Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is an Omega-3 Fatty Acid which is an essential nutrient for proper growth and development of the brain, eyes, nervous system and cell membranes. Low levels of DHA have been correlated with changes in disposition, memory loss, and visual and other neurological conditions.

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) has anti-inflammatory properties, and clinical studies have found it to be helpful for arthritic conditions such as Osteoarthritis, and in Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The richest sources of DHA are mothers milk and fish. Until recently, the primary source of DHA dietary supplements was from marine fish oils which supply both eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

DHA alone is now available as a supplement in the form of ocean microalgae softgel capsules.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids have been found to help wound healing, which is why Omega-3 supplements, and a diet of Omega-3 rich foods, might be beneficial for animal skin disorders.
