Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum, tetracycline antibiotic. Doxycycline is commonly used to treat tick-borne diseases such as erlichiosis, Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain, as well as water-borne diseases like leptospirosis.
Doxycycline is also used to treat wolbachia, a bacteria that infects heartworms and is required for heartworm survival. Wolbachia are found in all stages of the heartworm.
