The C-reactive protein test (CRP) measures the concentration of a protein which is found in blood serum when there is acute inflammation in the body. C-reactive protein (CRP) is produced by the liver in response to inflammation or a bacterial infection.
For dogs, CRP has been found to be a valid prognostic marker for a variety of conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, polyarthritis and acute pancreatitis.
