Polymerase Chain Reaction Testing (PCR) is a molecular biology technique which was developed in 1983.

A PCR test is able to amplify the DNA found in a sample (blood, hair, pus, skin scraping etc.) and compare it to the nucleotide segments found in a pathogen. In this way, PCR testing can help to diagnose and monitor a bacterial, fungal or viral infection.
