I have owned four dogs so far, two from small puppies. I tend to favor my beagle since we bonded when she was only 4mos old.

 She loves to cuddle and be close to us at all times.<br>Unfortunately, she seems to go a bit crazy when left alone. If we leave the dogs in the kitchen away from human interaction to mop or something, she chews at the molding and cries. <br>She is very sweet and loves all people, including babies. I would recommend this mixture of breeds to anyone.){kind=link}
 to a new dog. She loved him immediately and they bonded more than anyone else. We named her Georgette after the white fluffy dog in the cartoon movie Oliver and Co. <br>Our friends all thought her blue tongue was really cool. She would sit and let young kids pet her all day long. She was incredibly patient. Her tail curled up onto her back and she wiggled it whenever she saw us.<br>Unfortunately, she liked to take solo walks. /she could clear a six foot wall in one leap and she practiced that ability often, touring our neighborhood whenever she fancied. <br>When I was eleven, we moved to Arizona. That first summer, her kidneys failed. We all thought she was going to die and we sadly nursed her with IV drips and syringes. But she pulled through.<br>A few years later, we were out of town and my grandfather was watching the house and her and out other dog. She went for one of her walks and she never came back. My father was heart-broken.<br><br>Georgette was loud. I don't know what breed this came from but she loved to bark. Also, she hated strange dogs. She used to habitually bully a loving golden retriever who lived down the street. But she loved kids and all people, always looking for attention. <br>She wasn't much of a hunter, but due to her jumping ability she could catch birds. And then she would eat them, beak, feet and all.<br>I would advise this type of dog for small kids. She was wonderful. I just wish she hadn't run away.){kind=link}

She had been discovered on an illegal puppy farm with 100s of other puppies. Due to this, she was not used to people and had an aversion to my dad for a few months. He used to coax her to him with bits of sausage in his palm. <br>She was always a little smartie. When she was very young, we used to keep her in a child's playpen when we were out and about, but she soon learned how to escape. She also has learned how to open my bedroom door and insists on sleeping with me every night. <br>She is very cuddly and affectionate. After going away to college, when I came home for the summer, she tackled me and covered me in kisses before just laying on me and whimpering happily. If you come home from the store and walk right past her, she howls at you as if to say "I'm right here!"<br>But it's not all wonderful. Lady likes to hunt rabbits. Beagles were bred to be hunters but I personally don't want a dead, skinned rabbit left for me in my family room as a present. Also, Lady has seizures. They used to be rare, but as she gets older they tend to happen about once every two weeks. Luckily her buddy, Cougar, always warns us before a seizure so that we can hold her and protect her from hurting herself. <br>As far as small children are concerned, she is a little bit timid around them. She would never hurt a child, they just scare her a little bit and so sometimes she likes to hide in my room when my cousins come over.<br>And she hates loud noises. Fireworks, vacuums, and even fireplaces terrify her and she has to go hide in my room. <br>She treats cats like rabbits and tries to catch them but luckily she never has killed one. I think if we had raised her with a cat she would be better. <br>A few years ago, I took her into the backyard to go pee one last time before bed and a coyote jumped the wall while Lady and I were still outside. She charged at him and ended up getting hurt when it bite her butt as she turned to run away. She healed fine without infection and only minimal scar tissue. She even let the Vet treat her while being wide awake. Just recently a coyote jumped into our yard again and this time she scared him away easily. <br>She loves to bark. She has different howls for different situations. She has a stranger-on-the-doorstep howl, a hunting howl, a -let-the-neighborhood-know-I-live-here howl and her little howls to get our attention. If you don't like noise or barking, I wouldn't advise a beagle.<br>However, Lady is also very sensitive. Recently I had an accident at work that injured my right hand and Lady was very attentive to me bandages and splints. At night she would nudge my hand up on top of her back and sleep with my injured hand resting on her almost as if she knew I had to keep it elevated. Every chance she gets, she sniffs my hand and every once in a while she softly lays her head on it. <br>I have never found an animal that is a better fit for me. I know I will be rescuing and buying beagles for the rest of my life. And I also know that the day I lose Lady will be dark and dreary.){kind=link}
