I've seen him around other dogs, cats, little kids and strangers and his reactions are always the same... polite and mellow!<br><br>He's also fairly easy to take care of, with short, straight hair and a cute, bulldog-ish face that is not as susceptible to the breathing problems similar-faced dogs can experience. <br><br>I recommend a dog like this to anyone looking for easygoing yet playful companionship, and particularly for a family with young children, as his modest size and friendly temperament fits any environment.){kind=link}

He was exceptionally playful and friendly.<br><br>On the negative side, we were never quite able to get him to "hold it in" for his walks. He had a habit of peeing wherever he was, indoors or out, whenever he felt the slightest urge. In fact, I think he PREFERRED urinating indoors, especially in the kitchen.<br><br>Another negative was his uncanny ability to break his chains and run away. In a two week period, he ran away 3 times, once going so far as to wind up in a supermarket a mile and a half away.<br><br>Eventually, our family realized we couldn't handle this dog anymore and gave him away to a big family, who were very pleased to have him. We kept in touch and it turns out they had the space, time and energy to keep up with him.<br><br>Based on my experience if you plan on getting a black lab, make sure you have plenty of time and energy to devote to him or her.
