Ivermectin in this concentration and in combination with pyrantel is used to prevent canine heartworm disease and treat Toxocara and hookworm infections.
Certain breeds are genetically hypersensitive to ivermectin. In these dogs the drug can pass directly to the brain and cause damage or even be lethal. Therefore, ivermectin should not be used in Collies, Border collies, Shetland sheepdogs, Old English sheepdogs, Australian shepherds and mixed breeds that include herding breeds.
