Exercise is the only way to stay sane when you have a puppy. Their boundless energy, when not channeled in constructive ways, will compel them to discover a million different things to destroy and ways to interrupt whatever you're doing so that you never get a moment of peace. So, I've found that daily, intense exercise is the best thing you can do for your puppy's well-being (and yours)!
Exercising your puppy will make everything easier, because a tired puppy is a happy puppy. After exercise, your puppy will be much more inclined to play quietly by themselves or take a nap. They'll be able to focus better on training, and exercise can ease the pain of separation as well: if a puppy's hyper from being cooped up all day in addition to the nervousness of you leaving, you're prone to have a full-on meltdown on your hands.
The quality of your puppy's workout matters, though. For most puppies, a 15-minute stroll around the block isn't gonna cut it. Your puppy needs the time and space to let loose: a fenced in yard is ideal, or dog parks are another great option if your puppy is well-socialized. But, this doesn't mean you have to live on a farm: I have a fairly open basement, so I just bring my puppy, Oliver, down a few times a day for a game of fetch or just him sprinting around. It's super easy, and he's much more calm when he's had a chance to get his energy out.
Overall, exercising your puppy is essential to their development, both mentally and physically. And it makes your life easier as well!
