Carprofen is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication which is commonly used in veterinary clinics. It provides pain relief for mild to moderate pain and also reduces inflammation in the soft tissue of the body.

It is prescribed commonly in the recovery of joint injuries or pain management following joint surgery.
I have found that carprofen has a good safety margin. It should be given with food to reduce risk of gastrointestinal upset. If used longer term, the dog should have kidney deliver enzymes monitored regularly.

Like all NSAIDs, it is not suitable for use in all patients:
1. Contraindicated in dogs with liver, kidney or cardia disease
2. Contraindicated in dehydrated or low blood pressure patients
3. Not to be used in dogs less than 6 weeks of age.
4. Not to be administered along with other NSAIDs or steroids
