Exercise helps new family members get acquainted

Hands down, the best thing I've done for any dog I've introduced to the family (as a forever pet and as a foster pet) is take them on group walks.

Exercise by itself is a miracle worker for a lot of dogs; it promotes their health and mental well-being, and it provides them with an outlet for their energy.

In particular, exercising together with other members of the family (canine and human) is very beneficial in helping a dog adjust to the new group dynamic.

A daily brisk walk, where all the dogs can see each other but don't have time to get worked up about it, helps to build confidence and trust between the new dog and the older family members.
